APCF Peer Network
"Lean On Me" Song by Bill Withers
"Participation in the Peer Network has been instrumental in making some needed adjustments to my life after surgery. I was a seven-year survivor when I began attending, so I wasn't sure what the group could offer after all that time and a reasonably successful outcome. What I didn't realize was how alone I felt sometimes coping with the lifestyle changes and the uncertainty. I didn't realize how powerful the opportunity simply to share my experiences with other men would be. The absolute confidence in which the group operates, the willingness of the men to be so amazingly honest, and the development of a brother-in-arms type of bonding all have served as strong and needed emotional medicine." R.D. Saenz, Survivor
Survivor-Mentors
If you would like to talk with someone one-on-one, the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation can connect you with a Survivor-Mentor. Survivor-Mentors are men and women who have experienced some of the same feelings you now have. They are trained to support you and help you find resources.
If you would like to speak with a Survivor-Mentor, please call 800-338-1383.
Peer Network
The most important thing to remember when going through cancer treatment is that you are not alone. Many others have gone through the process and it may be very helpful to gather others’ knowledge and insight.
The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Peer Network meets once a month in 4 locations: Little Rock, Fort Smith, Fayetteville and Jonesboro. The Peer Network is a completely private and confidential setting for survivors to get together to discuss prostate cancer-related issues.
