Public and Patient Education

One of the most challenging issues with prostate cancer is a lack of awareness and knowledge about the disease.  Awareness is critical to surviving prostate cancer.  Knowledge about risk level, assessing and monitoring prostate health, diagnosis, treatment options (including whether or not to treat), and survivorship issues are all important factors.  Men, especially those at high risk (African American and men with a family history of prostate cancer) have not been properly educated about this disease.  A major part of the mission of the Foundation is to increase awareness about prostate cancer thoughout the state of Arkansas.

The Foundation achieves its educational objective in three ways:

Presenting information about prostate cancer detection, treatment and survivorship at public expos, health fairs, local businesses, schools, churches, and community meetings.  Because different venues require different educational formats, we offer structured 15 minute PowerPoint presentations followed by Q and A as well as more informal discussions.

  •  The Foundation maintains a large prostate cancer resource library and distributes educational materials around the state to organizations and individuals.  All materials are distributed free of charge.  Anyone needing educational materials make a request by contacting Cara Harris by phone at 501-379-8027 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ., or you can click on here to place an order on-line.
  • Our Patient Navigation Program provides ongoing education to men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and their families.  Click on here for more details about the Patient Navigation Program and the Peer Network support groups offered as a part of that program.

The Foundation is always looking for new opportunities to educate and spread awareness about prostate cancer to the men and women of Arkansas.  If you are interested in scheduling an educational event, please call or email Cara Harris at the number and email address noted above.  You might also want to check our calendar to see if there is already an event scheduled in your area
