One of the most challenging issues with prostate cancer is a lack of awareness and knowledge about the disease. Awareness is critical to surviving prostate cancer. Knowledge about risk level, assessing and monitoring prostate health, diagnosis, treatment options (including whether or not to treat), and survivorship issues are all important factors. Men, especially those at high risk (African American and men with a family history of prostate cancer) have not been properly educated about this disease. A major part of the mission of the Foundation is to increase awareness about prostate cancer thoughout the state of Arkansas.
The Foundation achieves its educational objective in three ways:
Presenting information about prostate cancer detection, treatment and survivorship at public expos, health fairs, local businesses, schools, churches, and community meetings. Because different venues require different educational formats, we offer structured 15 minute PowerPoint presentations followed by Q and A as well as more informal discussions.
The Foundation is always looking for new opportunities to educate and spread awareness about prostate cancer to the men and women of Arkansas. If you are interested in scheduling an educational event, please call or email Cara Harris at the number and email address noted above.
